ON Reading I hear all the time that people are reading less and less these days. Perhaps there is more distraction, more gadgets, our lives are too busy to find a quiet corner and savour a book. Yet, this is a habit that we need to keep alive in ourselves and inculcate in the future generation. Reading is to the mind what a good meal is to the body. It sustains, it nourishes, it helps us think, it helps us grow . I have for years spoken about a few simple thi ngs we can d o in our homes and around us to keep this habit alive. I hope you will agree w ith my suggestion and try to implement some of them.  * Build Home libraries. Gather books in one and twos and slowly build up a collection. Keep this library as a gift for the future generation, filling it with beautiful meaningful books.  * Read with your children. If you are a parent, keep aside some part of the day when you sit with your children and read together. it could be the same b...

शाहिरी अभंग गाते ( नितीन चंदनशिवे.)

 छाया नागजकरांच्या तमाशात नाचणारी पुष्पां लोंढे ही एकदा पुण्यात आली आणि आवर्जून मला भेटली.स्वारगेटला आमची भेट झाली तेव्हा पुष्पाने रमेशबद्दल सांगितलं आणि मी हादरून गेलो.रमेश गेल्या सहा महिन्यांपासून झोपून आहे.त्याची बायको त्याला सोडून गेली आहे.तुझी सारखी आठवण काढत असतो.सात आठ पत्रं त्याने तुला लिहली आहेत पण पाठवली नाहीत."रमेश कधी जाईल याचा नेम नाही तू त्याला भेटून यायला हवं".रमेशची आठवण गहरी झाली.डोळ्यात कृष्णा दाटून आली आणि तो काळ जसाच्या तसा आठवला. --------रमेश वाघमारे उर्फ रमेश खलाटीकर.सांगली जिल्ह्यातील जत तालुक्यात खलाटी म्हणून शंभर दीडशे उंबऱ्याचं हे गाव हा तिथलाच.संपूर्ण पश्चिम महाराष्ट्रात तमाशाचे फड जिंकणारा हा विनोदाचा बादशहा.सोंगाड्या ते शाहीर आणि ढोलकीपटू अशी रमेशची ओळख.छाया माया नागजकर यांच्या तमाशात त्याने काम केलं.मंगला बनसोडे यांच्या तमाशातही तो फार काळ होता.हा रमेश म्हणजे माझ्या आईचा सख्खा मावसभाऊ.याच्या संगतीनेच मी त्याकाळी अनेक जत्रेत तमाशा कलावंतांच्या घोळक्यात फिरलो.आज तमाशावर अनेकजण अभ्यास करत आहेत अनेक शोधनिबंधात रमेश खलाटीकर याचा उल्लेख केला आहे.या...
